Solutions 06 · Gmail Inbox Triage

Exercise 1

After Apply Label, add a second connection to IF Newsletter?: {{ $('Label Map (edit me)').item.json.category }} is equal to newsletter. True →

  1. Gmail Message → Mark as Read, Message ID {{ $('Label Map (edit me)').item.json.message_id }}
  2. Gmail Message → Remove Label, same Message ID, Label IDs INBOX

Exercise 2

Telegram example (Send Message), replacing the No Operation node:

🚨 Urgent email
From: {{ $('Label Map (edit me)').item.json.from }}
Subject: {{ $('Label Map (edit me)').item.json.subject }}
{{ $('Label Map (edit me)').item.json.summary }}

Slack (Send Message to a channel) or Gmail-to-yourself work the same way.

Exercise 3

From Label Map (edit me), add IF Sales? (category = sales) → Basic LLM Chain (OpenAI Chat Model sub-node), prompt:

Write a short, friendly reply (max 90 words) to this potential client. Thank them, ask one clarifying question about their project, and propose a 20-minute call. Do not invent prices. Sign as Ian.

From: {{ $json.from }}
Subject: {{ $json.subject }}
Summary: {{ $json.summary }}

→ Gmail Draft → Create: Subject Re: {{ $('Label Map (edit me)').item.json.subject }}, Message {{ $json.text }}, Options → Thread ID: the email's threadId (add thread_id = {{ $json.threadId ?? '' }} to Prepare Email and carry it through Triage Result).

Drafts, not sends: a human stays in the loop for anything that represents you.
